How to Start a Blog

This post contains affiliate links – you can read all about that here.  It basically means that if you buy something from one of my links, I may get a small commission.  However, I LOVE you and would never try to sell you something I don’t absolutely love – because I’m nothing if I’m not honest and my word means everything to me.  Okay, read on!

In response to my last newsletter about what all of you want to hear more of, SO many of you said you want to hear more about blogging and how to start a blog.  If you’re not already getting my newsletter, be sure to sign up here!

Instead of rewriting the wheel – instead of reinventing it…get it?  Cause I’m a blogger?  I’m so clever, I know – I decided to compile some of my favorite articles about this subject.

But first – a book.

If you’re looking to start a blog, buy this, read it, read it again, highlight it, take notes from it…do it step by step until you’re able to quit your job in a few months because you’ve replaced your income.  If you’re passionate about starting a blog and you just know you can be hugely successful – this book will show you the steps you need to take to make it happen.

I bought How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup and started to implement it, and then my husband made me buy Elite Blog Academy (more on that later) and here we are today.

Since blogging’s best have already written all about how to start a blog, I thought it would be a waste of time to write the same steps out for you again.  Instead, here are some articles to get you started.  Most of these sites have numerous posts about blogging that you’ll want to refer back to again and again.

The posts you really can’t afford to miss:

Bookmark, bookmark, bookmark these!

Amy Lynn Andrews

If you’re looking to start a blog, an amazing resource throughout your journey will be Amy Lynn Andrews.  She’s the queen of blogging, especially when it comes to how to start a blog and how to make it amazing.  Check out her post about how to start a blog here.

Carly On Purpose

One of my best blogging friends – Carly of Carly On Purpose – has this page with a ton of amazing information.  Her success story proves just how quickly you can create a profitable blog if you’re passionate about your topic.  Just check out her income reports! (And all the other great info too!)

She’s also a Pinterest genius.  For just 2 months, she’s sharing her method to success and I can’t recommend it highly enough.  You can pick up her awesome ebook here.

The Busy Budgeter

I’ve read this post a million times.  Every time I really need motivation to give up sleep so I can blog, I bust out this puppy, read it, and get to work.  It’s all about how to blog even if you suck at computers and technology.  My blog is successful and I can hardly operate the remote.  You CAN do it too!

Here is another good one from the Busy Budgeter.  If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me how you make money with a blog, I’d be a rich girl.

Your Modern Family

If you’re going to start a blog, you almost HAVE to start it on wordpress.org.  NOT wordpress.com.  Yes, they’re different.  Check out this post from Your Modern Family.

Sarah Titus

Sarah Titus is the queen of not having a niche.  All of the info above is awesome, but almost every single one will tell you to “pick a niche.”  Basically, pick what your blog is going to be about and don’t deviate from it or you’ll confuse your readers.

This is one of the only areas that I disagree with some of these amazing bloggers, and Sarah Titus is one reason why.  She hardly has a niche…she writes about whatever is on her mind that day, and she’s made a crazy living at it.  Read her tips on how to start a blog here.

Elite Blog Academy

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, I know you’ve heard of this.  Once you’re convinced you need to start a blog and have read through all of this awesome information, you also need to consider Elite Blog Academy or EBA.  It’s the program I used to grow my blog, step-by-step to over 100,000 pageviews per month.

The catch?

It is crazy expensive – BUT it paid for itself within 6 months of starting my blog.  It also only opens once a year, so you have to decide you’re willing to invest in your new business now before it opens.  Then you can pull the trigger at enrollment time and know you did the right thing!  Get on the waiting list here.

The best part?

If you pay for Elite Blog Academy and hate it, you can get your money back.  Ruth Soukup offers a money back guarantee (at the time of this writing) so you’re committing to something expensive – but not really.  If you start it and can’t stick to blogging or don’t see any growth, you can request a refund.  Also – she implemented a monthly payment plan with her last semester of EBA.  That’s the only way I was able to afford it!

Sign up for the monthly payments and give it a try – this time next year you’ll probably be self-employed.
