I homeschool our 5 kids. One of them loves to do worksheets and will do them for hours on end. My 7 year old HATES to write, and thought he hated homeschool.

What changed everything was for me to change my expectations. He isn't going to sit down and love writing essays any time soon. This is exactly what I did:

I asked my son how many words he could write perfectly for me. He said maybe five? Okay - five words at a time and written as perfect as he can so we have something beautiful to show our evaluator at the end of the year. Next, I changed HOW he writes.

Our curriculum had a project one day that involved writing with white crayon and coloring over it with dark marker to reveal the words. This changed EVERYTHING. Of course! It's exciting!

Now, we use whiteboards for copywork and I take pictures for our portfolio. We've also written on the driveway with chalk. He's now learning to type and is about to learn cursive.
