Amazon Prime Day 2018

How to Use Amazon Prime for FREE

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or simply don’t own any electronic device with a screen, you know that Amazon Prime Day is coming up.  It’s like black Friday for Amazon Prime members only – but you don’t have to PAY for a Prime Membership!  Get a 30-day free trial here and get the deals other Prime members get, but with the chance to cancel your membership without ever being charged for it!

Today’s Best Deals

One of the best deals that will save you money all year long is an Amazon Firestick. At least I think so. We cancelled cable and use our Firestick to watch Netflix, Starz, Amazon Prime movies…we even rent movies with ours! It’s only $19.99 today which beats the heck out of the $200 we used to pay for cable.

We bought our Firestick when it was $50 and I STILL feel like we got a great deal.

You guys…their kids’ tablets are only $89! We paid more than that for the older version, the Fire 7!

We LOVE these tablets. Take it from a mom who needs a distraction to make phone calls and nurse a baby – these things are a life saver. Plus, they can play ABC Mouse (separate subscription required) and you don’t have to feel guilty about screen time.

Trust me when I tell you that it’s almost impossible to find a tablet that is compatible with ABC Mouse AND as indestructible as these. Our boys still haven’t broken theirs which is a first. They break everything!

The Fire 7 Tablets are the exact ones we have. They have less storage and less battery life, but we absolutely love them and I don’t regret not spending the extra money on the Fire 8s.

Other Awesome Deals

I’m picking up one of these Video Doorbell Pros while they’re 30% off. I’m writing this to you from a hotel room 11 hours away from our house. I NEED this. It’s definitely money well spent!

Is Prime Day a Waste of Money?

Someone needed to say it.

Is Prime Day just another day like Black Friday and Cyber Monday created by retailers (in this case Amazon) to stir up hype and get people to buy things?

Yep, it sure is.

BUT

Do you care if it’s just a retail “holiday” if it saves you money?

Now, let’s talk about that whole saving money part…

I posed this to my email subscribers and I’m reminding you too…

A deal is only a deal if you’re buying something you actually NEED or something you want bad enough that you were going to buy it whether it was on sale or not.

Keep that in mind today and every retail holiday when everyone is pulling out all the marketing stops to get you to spend your money.

I’ve failed you as a frugal living blogger if I didn’t at least say it.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about today’s deals:

Why Become a Prime Member?

The biggest savings for us is the free shipping, but there’s SO much more to Prime than that.

For example, your cable bill. Do you pay it every month because there’s that one show you absolutely can’t miss?

So you’re addicted to Game of Thrones, so you pay for cable every month to have access to HBO.

Plus, now and then you watch HGTV while you’re cleaning the house, so you justify paying for cable because now you’re watching more than just HBO a couple nights a week?

I know because we’ve been there!

Instead, you can pay for just the channels you watch using Prime Video channels.

Between Netflix and Prime Video we have absolutely no reason to pay for cable ever again.

We were paying over $200 a month for YEARS and only watching a handful of channels.

Amazon Fresh

The biggest waste of money in most families is food.

My number one secret to not spending a ton of money on food is to meal plan and then stick to our grocery budget by ordering our food online.

It’s the only way I’ve found to completely cut out impulse buys.
